Scoring / Scanning & Report Formats
Since its inception in 1995, MetriTech's Scoring Division has continued to significantly expand its processing capacity by increasing scoring center space by 2000%; incorporating high-speed digital scanners and flexible form recognition software; and regularly enhancing computing capabilities. During a school year, MetriTech typically images approximately 20,000,000 pages, scoring over 3,500,000 constructed-response items for over 3,500 districts in over 28 states. This represents the successful processing and scoring of approximately 1,000,000 individual student tests and is the result of utilizing processes fine-tuned over the past decade.
The quality of MetriTech's hand-scoring program is attributable to both staff qualifications and a considered training process. While a bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement for work on any project, a significant percentage of MetriTech scorers hold or are actively pursuing advanced degrees. Many have backgrounds in education and are active or retired teachers. To ensure the highest levels of scoring accuracy, validity, and reliability, training is customized for each scoring project, and includes continual monitoring and attention to quality control.
MetriTech performs scanning and electronic scoring, including optical mark recognition (OMR), optical character recognition (OCR), and image character recognition (ICR); recruitment, training, and continuing evaluation of scorers; and hand-scoring of short-constructed-response, extended-response, and essay items.
In addition to employing generally available software programs like SPSS and WINSTEPS, MetriTech psychometricians and IT specialists have collaborated to create a large number of proprietary computer programs for the statistical analysis and reporting of data. MetriTech's extensive experience in data analysis and reporting means that electronic data files and printed reports are available in a wide variety of formats and are easily adapted and customized to meet the entire range of client needs.
