Assess
English Language Learners and Measure Their Progress The Language Proficiency Test Series (LPTS) assesses annual growth in English language proficiency and works within existing programs to assess students' progress over time. By providing an accurate gauge of your students' proficiency, LPTS helps you make more informed decisions. All materials were developed and reviewed in cooperation with bilingual educators from a variety of English Language Learner (ELL) programs. More than 100 native language groups from urban, suburban, and rural districts were represented in the pilot studies that included bilingual students currently receiving services, bilingual students who have exited a program, and native English speakers. Applications and Features LPTS testing materials are available for grades K-12 in the areas of reading, writing and listening/speaking. Individual forms are designed around central themes, are graphics intensive, and use developmentally appropriate context and language. Test scores are reported for each of the following: reading, writing, and listening/speaking within the grade level at which the child is tested. Scores from different grade levels are equivalently scaled so that test results obtained from one testing can be compared to those of a later testing, regardless of the grade level. This methodology provides test administrators with a standardized measure of the child's progress, helping to better inform decisions and providing an accurate gauge of the student's improved English language proficiency over time. Reliabilities for all LPTS test forms equal or exceed .85. The LPTS is designed for individual or group administration. Tests are appropriate for use in placement and evaluation. A set of alternate forms is available to accommodate a follow-up assessment of students within a grade level. The LPTS can be integrated into all ELL programs including Bilingual, Immersion, Transitional, and Pull-out programs. If you prefer, MetriTech will score the tests for you and will provide consulting and/or workshops for your convenience.
